Persevere and Prosper
The only way to actually find out if you can do something is to stick with it long enough to find out.
The eight-time Olympian sprinter and world recorder holder, Usain Bolt once said, “I trained 4 years to run 9 seconds, and people give up when they don't see results in 2 months.”
Tough times don’t last… tough people do. Part of the problem with today’s microwave, instant gratification society is that everything needs to be instant, fast, and ready within minutes (if not seconds.)
And if it’s not an instant result, majority of people give up and are out of the fight.
Living in this instant gratification world has a ripple effect on how we view and perceive performance in the sports world.
Nobody can refine their skill, increase their IQ, or become a master with the snap of their fingers. It takes TIME and EFFORT and CONSISTENCY to develop fluency and vigor in your pursued skill.
One way to encourage perseverance is to approach each day and just get 1% better.
It doesn’t matter how much you practice, it matters how consistently you practice.
The more “1% progress days” you can string together to build the chain, the deeper the skill is developed.
Whatever area, skill, or task you desire to master, you must dedicate a small portion of each and every day to work at it.
This means that your daily practiced skill needs to be set up into digestible chunks you can complete.
If you want to have more peace and be more calm, you could practice meditation.
Choosing to start your mediation journey with a single 60 minute meditation practice will not change your inner peace in that one session.
In fact, making the daily task too challenging can have the opposite effect and may influence you to not continue the journey.
To truly preserve and prosper, commit to a 1 minute meditation practice and complete as many consecutive days as possible.
This type of approach, the 1% better every day principle, will have more of an effect on your progress and ability to develop the inner calm you desire.
Consider the big dreams you have - how can you scale those down to a one, five, or ten minute task to be completed every single day? This is how the 1% principle can be applied in your own life.
When we have the choice to take the easy route or persevere down the tougher trail, take the trail that’s going to make you stronger.
By preserving, you are choosing to prosper and blossom into a more evolved, experienced version of you.
So how can you persevere today?
What is a task you can commit to complete every day?
How will this daily task help you become closer to the skill, task or event you want to complete?
It’s your choice… to give up OR to persevere and prosper.
