Get Out of Your Own Way

""Wow - I am awful."

"I suck at this."

"Why do I even try?""

Have these thoughts ever crossed your mind when adversity hits?

Of course - because you are human and it is easy to slip into the comfort of negative self-talk, self-sabatoge, and have self-doubt.

When these thoughts start, you have a choice to give in the powerless self-talk or the shift you thoughts into a powerful perspective.

Discomfort is part of the process - no matter the journey you are on. As soon as your mind feels the discomfort, it goes on high alert to retreat and back down.

You constantly have a narrative happening in your mind. How you own and fuel your narrative is up to you.

"You can train your brain to work FOR you, not against you.

When you hear the negative self-talk start to creep into your thoughts, you have the power to change your perspective from "wow - I am awful" into "this is an opportunity to grow and become stronger."

A mistake or a misstep does NOT define who you are as an athlete. How you respond to adversity, however, does.

Don't let your mistakes determine your identity - OWN your narrative and perspective about the challenges you face.

Take responsibility for mistakes, analyze and learn fromthem, and use them to grow.

One mistake does not discount all the dedication and hard work you have put in to get to this point.

Putting things in perspective, reminding yourself of your progress, and seeing adversity as opportunity is a powerful tool you can use to out of your own way!
