Find Your Focus
Everyone is competing for your focus and attention. The ads on your socials, the news on tv, even your close friends and family.
Undivided attention is a currency only YOU have control of where to distribute.
When you choose to lend your focus to someone or something, it triggers the use of another important life currency - your time and energy.
Our modern world runs 100 miles per minute which can feel as if parts of us are being pulled in a million different directions.
Times are much different than the times of caveman which moved at 5 mph - sleep, hunt, survive, and repeat.
In our highly distractable world, there is choice in how to respond to any request and “invest” your attention.
Awareness of your own undivided attention is an opportunity to spend this valuable currency in a way that align with your priorities.
When deciding where to focus, ask yourself these questions:
Does this serve me?
Does this help me live out my truth?
Does this provide opportunity to grow?
Truly asking yourself "does this serve me" can be a determining factor if and when you grant your focus to others.
Focus and concentration CAN be trained, just like you train any other physical skill. However, it requires intention, attention, and action.
Strategies to train your focus:
🧘🏼♂️Practice Mindfulness: starting at one minute, focus on the present moment and what is around you. Focusing on your breath and using all senses notice how you feel, what sounds you hear, what aromas you smell, what sights you see, what flavors you taste. This quick grounding exercise of tapping into your senses are repetitions to strengthen your focusing skills.
🔕Remove Distractions: as connected as some of us are with our phone, try leaving it in another room for an hour. Finding focus on tasks can be easier without a buzz or ring every two minutes. By eliminating distractions you are freeing yourself by removing obstacles along the path.
1️⃣One task at a time: As we glorify and praise being able to do many things at once, is multitasking really helpful? It's better to move one thing a mile than fifteen things an inch. Practice giving FULL focus to one thing at time and avoid multitasking.
💤👟Physical health: Prioritizing exercise and getting plenty of sleep are factors to encourage better focus. Moving your body and getting adequate rest are components that can solve the equation of finding your focus.
YOU are the one who controls your focus, not another outside force.
Your attention and focus are precious - it's time you start acting like they mean something to you.
Protect your focus and energy as much as possible.
Where and who you lend your focus shows proof of your priorities. Choose wisely!
