Courage to Confidence

I think it’s safe to say that we all would like the security to have full confidence in ourselves.

The confidence to know we can achieve our goals…

The confidence to love ourselves and our bodies no matter the stage of growth we are in…

Or the confidence to truly believe in our talents and gifts.

Confidence is having a secure trust in ourselves. But confidence doesn’t just appear in our lives from the snap of our fingers.

It takes work to get there.

Before we can achieve confidence, we have to use courage to do the hard things (and probably struggle through them.)

Courage is a two second decision.

Courage calls us to face off with our fears.

It requires an act of bravery and perseverance.

And it’s a decision that needs to be made in the moment of hesitation, judgement, or self-doubt.

In those moments, we have a choice.

We can slink back into our current, comfortable state and let others step up…

OR

We can choose to let the butterflies go wild in our belly and be brave enough to step into our courage found deep in your heart.

It just takes two seconds.

The decision to go forward when we don’t have all the answers…

The decision to speak your mind…

The decision to welcome and sit by the new kid at school…

The decision to make big changes in your life - all of these take two seconds of courage.

If we choose to stay inside our comfort zone, we will never know who we are truly capable of becoming.

It’s time to step up into a bigger, bolder you.

In Ryan Holiday’s book, “Courage Is Calling”, he has a perspective shifting quote of why courage is so important:

“To give in to fear is to deny the talents and skills that got you where you are in the first place. It’s to deprive yourself of the agency you were given at birth.”

Confidence is something we all seek but it’s the courage within that will help you become extraordinary.

Another quote from Dr. Susan David on courage,

“Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is fear walking.”

To grow from courage to confidence, consider these steps:

  1. The 2 second decision to employ courage and step outside your comfort zone.

  2. Believing you can achieve the task.

  3. Setting commitments and following through to build your self-trust.

  4. Experiencing confidence after completing the challenging task.

To truly build your confidence, you must do the work to become courageous, believe in yourself, and build your self trust.

No, confidence can not be gained through the snap of your fingers, but it can be gained through intentional and tough work.

Your challenge this week - find the moments in when you have a choice to be courageous or seek comfort.

In those moments you can grow - choose courage.

I challenge you to choose courage this week and work towards a more confident life.
