So You Want To Become a Better Performer…

A common trait among all high performers, no matter the field, is the awareness, practice, and execution to improve these three things:

  • Craft

  • Body

  • Mind

The difference between those who have already achieved and those still waiting for their big break is the gap between the INTENTION and EXECUTION of practicing the skills that really matter to build their craft, body, and mind.

High performers are not special or different from you and me. You too have the opportunity to work on yourself with the resources and time you have available.

Creating clarity around your unlived or dream life is important - without the desired direction, you can remain stuck and looping with the same habits that get you nowhere.

I know this, because I’ve been there.

Dreaming big but not following through.

Imagining my life of how I REALLY want it, but feeling defeated by how much work it will require to get there.

And alas, we all are up against the primal instinct and natural biology of our brain.

It is likely you will experience similar thoughts when you start to dream big but then start to hold yourself back.

As soon as you think about a dreamy vision of how you’d like to be living, you may feel a twinge of discomfort, coupled with self-limiting thoughts that pop up in your mind:

“There’s no way you can achieve that.”

“There are other people out there doing it better than you ever will.”

“Why would you even TRY? Play it safe and keep doing you’ve been doing.”

If you desire to become a stronger performer, be ready to combat and work through those limiting thoughts, because they WILL show up!

In those moments after these limiting thoughts, you have a choice.

You can give in to this “lesser self” or take control of the narrative to boost your “heroic self”.

You have control of your response to build your unwavering self-belief:

“I am in control of my effort, discipline, and commitment to become better.”

“I am NOT my thoughts, and I am capable of achieving great things.”

“Everything is figureoutable, and I am stronger than I think.”

A lot of times, we are the ones who get in our own way.

When you take the time to challenge your limiting beliefs, you are working to operate with a high performance mindset.

It’s a choice.. Either let your limiting beliefs rule you or you can rule out your limiting beliefs.

Our thoughts matter, and by bringing awareness to when you are limiting yourself can give your power back.

It does not matter if you are striving to be the richest person in the world, the fastest Olympic speed skater, or the greatest plumber of all time. We all have access to train our craft, our body, and our mind to become our best.

Becoming a better performer does not require flashy and loud action.

In fact, those who have achieved the most have executed the boring and simple things over and over and over and over and over again in the dark.

The quiet work done in the dark is more important than any other type of work you can do in this world.

That is the work that truly matters once the stadium lights come on and it’s time to perform and produce results.

So you want to become a better performer… start with identifying what you desire for these three areas of your life:

  • How do you want to fuel and be fueled by your craft?

  • How do you want to build your body?

  • How do you want to manage your mind?

It is best practice to put the pen to the paper and get thoughts out on the paper.

After that, ask yourself this question for each area:

What is a simple task I can do EVERY SINGLE DAY to make that happen?

Start small, and make a commitment to be as consistent as possible.

The sustained effort and discipline that is practiced is what makes the “boring” tasks into something greater over time.

All of the answers and ability to get things done is already within you - it’s your choice to tap in with your deep desires and execute on the habits that will get you there!
